One man’s trash is another man’s treasure!!!

The saying is oh so true for this post!Yes this is a non-food related post.I will have some from time to time.So bare with me.Last night when Sean came home,he said that someone had put out a desk that I might like.(to clear things up,I have been looking for a roll top desk for ages and have been talking about getting one for ages)So I go outside and to my surprise there is a roll top desk sitting by the(not in it) dumpster!!!I was soo happy..Unfortunately the roll top part was in such bad shape we had to take it completely off.But we plan on making a new one.And also maybe this weekend Sean might take his sander to it so we can stain it!

So Sean got the vacuum and vaccummed the heck out of it.Then I made some mr.clean water and scrubbed the whole thing down and inside and out of the drawers.I do not like bugs and its one of the things that worries me whenever we find furniture outside. So after vaccuming and wiping down I thoroughly sprayed it with lysol a few times..Can’t be too cautious with stuff like this…Then before we went to sleep Sean sprinkled some bar keepers friend on it just to be safe..I also vaccumed all the carpet around it.(LOL I bet our neighbors loved that…this was at like 10:30 last night)So in case your curious for people I’m not friends with on facebook..Here are some pictures!

The white stuff on top of it is the bar keepers friend…Also very good for cleaning bath tubs!

See the missing roll top part…I was sad that we had to take it off…

It has really deep drawers on both sides, that will be perfect for keeping my craft supplies in!

The more I like it I am kinda starting to like the color it is paint already, but it doesn’t go with any of our other furniture…

Celebration Chicken

I was looking through some of my old recipes I had written down to see if I could find one I could make with the things I have on hand, and this is one I found.I found this recipe before I started writing the websites on all my recipes so I have no idea where I got it..If anyone knows please leave a comment…Its very similar to a barbecue sauce that I made minus a few ingredients. It was very yummy and a very easy recipe to make.It called for chicken breasts but I used chicken thighs instead and I think that was a good choice. It stayed nice and tender.Best of all it only has 5 ingredients in it and you probably have everything in your pantry!

First you start by cutting the chicken thighs or breasts into chunks and put in a 13×9 inch baking pan.

Then you mix together the ketchup, brown sugar, onion soup mix,and water together in a bowl!

Once its all mixed together you pour it over the chicken and stir making sure its all coated.

Then you bake it for 50 minutes in a 375 degree oven…It will be very saucy and perfect to put over rice like we did.

It was very tasty and I usually have everything on hand so I will definitely be making it again!Hope you enjoy it!

Celebration Chicken:

2lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs

1 envelope onion soup mix

1/2 cup ketchup

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup water

Cut chicken into chunks.Arrange chicken in a shallow baking dish in a single layer.Set aside. In a small bowl, combine remaining ingredients.Pour over chicken.

Cover baking dish tightly with foil.Bake at 375 degrees F for 50 minutes.

Banana Bread

Today I tried another new Banana bread recipe I found at’s a very basic recipe with alot of banana flavor.Super moist and tasty!I always seem to find good recipes at…It’s one of my favorite websites!

So here’s how I made it..

I first started by mixing all the dry ingredients together in my big measuring cup.

Then I mixed all the wet ingredients together with the bananas in another bowl. And combined the dry ingredients to that.

Then I poured it in my glass loaf pan and baked it at 350 degrees F for 60 minutes..And it came out wonderfully golden brown!

After it cooled in the loaf pan for a few minutes I took it out and set it on a cooling rack to finish cooling…

And there you have it folks,a lovely golden brown loaf of home made banana bread!I just had a slice and it was very tasty! It is also one of my favorite things to have for breakfast!Hope you try the recipe and enjoy!

Pork Chop and Potato Casserole

Last week I tried another new recipe.A pretty basic Pork Chop and Potato casserole..I found the recipe on( It was very tasty.I think next time I make it I will try it with cream of chicken soup instead of cream of mushroom soup. Here is how I made it.

First you start by sauteing the pork chops in a skillet until cooked almost through.Once they are done set them on a plate to rest while you assemble the rest of the ingredients.

Then you mix together the soup and milk together in a bowl or measuring cup.

Once your through slicing the potatoes and onions, spray a 13×9 inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. And place a layer of onions and potatoes and place the pork chops on top of those. And pour the soup/milk mixture on top…

Bake it at 400 degrees F for 30 minutes. It will be golden brown and pretty tasty when its done cooking..Should look like this.

Well, all in all it was pretty tasty.I will make it again.Maybe cube the potatoes instead of slicing them.Might cook better that way..I hope you try it and enjoy the results.

That day I also made a blue berry loaf/cake that turned out pretty well.I forgot to take pictures while making it..But here it is after I took it out of the oven.

Left over Night!

No new recipes till next week.We are having left overs for dinner tonight and probably tomorrow.Although,I did decide to put the rest of what was left of the pizza pasta after  cooking some for tonight’s dinner in the freezer as a back up dinner.I want to start doing that with our meals if we can so we always have something on hand.

I am looking forward to next week.I have a couple new recipes planned. So look for those. If I remember I will take pictures as I make them.

Hope all is well with everyone.Have a good night.
Hilary 🙂

We had a lovely…

We had a lovely relaxing weekend.Slept in late Saturday and made home made pizza for dinner..

Here is a picture of Sean’s pizza,he made an all meat pizza with pepperoni and sausage and cheese!

I made a supreme pizza with onions, peppers, mushrooms and sausage!Very yummy, will give me lunches for the next couple days…

Yesterday I made a new recipe,I call it pizza pasta bake,I’m sure you have seen similar recipes on the internet. But I used broken up spaghetti for the pasta, sauce, and the rest of the pizza toppings we had left over.I also made a ricotta like cheese layer with cottage cheese I pureed in the food processor.I have heard of people doing this and it really is just like ricotta cheese!I think I will be doing this for now on because it is a heck of alot cheaper than ricotta.

This will also give us atleast two dinners of left overs.

And for desert Sean made a lovely carmel sauce to go over ice cream

I hope you enjoyed my first post!Sorry the pictures are so big I am still learning how to use this.I am planning to start menu planning so keep an eye out for that also!
